Fishing for cobia can be a real challenge. It is perfered to use spinning gear to chase cobia so that when a fish shows itself you have the greatest chance of pitching a piece of squid, clam or jig right in to the path that the fish is on.
When hunting for a cobia, always remember they like shade. Look for manta rays, turtles, or large sharks and you will often find the cobia cruising in their shadows during their migrations. Cobia can even be found offshore lurking in the shadows of slow moving tanker ships. It is not uncommon for both wrecks and reefs to hold cobia as well since they also offer some shade for the cobia.
Hooking a cobia is said to be the easiest part of targeting these fish. Although they do not have a reputation of being overly picky eaters, they do have a very strong reputation for putting up fights that can often make an angler regret ever hooking into the fish.
One of the most popular places to catch cobia is in Florida.
